About Alan…

Alan Rose was born and raised in rural Nebraska. At the age of 17 he joined the Navy and became a radarman on a destroyer in the Pacific. After his discharge, Alan moved to Chicago to attend the (now defunct) Chicago Academy of Fine Arts on the GI Bill. Two years later, he transferred to the School of the Art Institute of Chicago, where he graduated with a BFA. Years later he received an MA in art therapy at Marylhurst University. After holding a variety of jobs in a number of places, Alan finally settled into the graphic design/illustration field, working mainly in the Pacific Northwest. In 2007 he resigned from his position as art director for a medical instrument manufacturer and returned to his passion, drawing & painting. He also learned how to write about himself in the third person.

“Does humor have a place in serious art? I believe it does because humor is an essential part of reality, not merely a distraction from it. “
